Hey! I'm Carrie

I love a good motto or rallying cry — a phrase to stir my heart and refocus my thoughts. As we approached the beginning of the 2024 school year, I began asking the Lord what motto or encouragement He may have for the homeschool group I coordinate locally. As I was folding laundry the week of our annual school year kick-off event the Lord gave me these words: Homeschool Strong.

Immediately I thought of the iconic World War II poster of Rosie the Riveter, declaring, “We Can Do It!” It’s an image of grit, muscle, and determination — we’ve got this!

But I knew that was not the heart of the words God had laid upon my heart for our group. I thought of the mountains in the logo for our local group — they were chosen as a visual reminder of Psalm 121:1-2:

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Where does my help to Homeschool Strong come from? My help comes from the Lord. Homeschooling isn’t about summoning superhuman strength or patience. It’s not about gritting your teeth to get through the day or pretending to have it all together. I have faced many struggles, challenges, doubts, and moments when I didn’t feel strong at all over the course of the last year — and I know I am not alone in that.

Here’s the beautiful truth: Homeschool Strong isn’t about relying on our own strength—it’s about leaning on His.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

When we feel weak, impatient, or unsure, God’s strength becomes our foundation. Homeschool Strong means we don’t have to rely on our own energy or wisdom because His grace carries us through. It is His strength that enables us to Homeschool Strong.

Let’s be honest—homeschooling can feel overwhelming at times. There are days when we feel like we’re failing at everything from teaching math to keeping the house in order. But to Homeschool Strong means we:

Rely on the Lord for patience, wisdom, and strength when we feel like we have none left.

Teach our children as unto the Lord, even in the mundane tasks that don’t feel very spiritual.

Boldly pray for our children and families, trusting that He hears every cry of our hearts.

To Homeschool Strong means that we turn to the Lord as our refuge and strength.

“I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.” Psalm 18:1-2

Homeschool Strong isn’t about perfection; it’s about faith. It’s about trusting God to provide what we need—patience for the hard days, wisdom for the difficulties, and grace for the moments we fall short.

No matter what you’re homeschool year has looked like so far, I’m encouraging you to Homeschool Strong. Together, let’s rely on His strength as we endeavor to homeschool with confidence, purpose, and joy.
